Happy Birthday, Israel

Posted on May 15th, 2011

May 15, 2011 marks the 63rd anniversary of Israel's rebirth as a modern nation-state. And so today we extend our warmest birthday wishes to our Israeli friends.

Since its founding, modern-day Israel has stood as a constant friend of America—and a steady beacon of democracy and modernity in the Middle East.

Israel isn't perfect. No country is. But it certainly doesn't merit the venom it receives from nations like Iran. Or, for that matter, the editors of the New York Times.

We find much to admire in Israel—its democratic institutions, its market economy, and its cool resolve in the face of terror. Happy 63rd, Israel!
